If you are a foreigner and you want to start learning Legal English, first and the most important aspect is to start and learn English. For this, I will recommend you a set of books which can help you expand your vocabulary, learn the grammar in an easy way and prepare yourself for even more when you will read Legal English books. I will talk about Essential English for Foreign Students by C.E. ECKERSLEY.
Essential English for foreign students
A book written by Charles Ewart ECKERSLEY (1892 – 1967), English teacher and author. Eckersley was also one of the first English language schools established in Oxford which helps foreign students get started with this language.
“Essential English for foreign students” it’s one of the best books I found to get you started with English in a proper way. It has 4 volumes, each with different levels of difficulty, tests, reading exercises and grammar.
Starting from the pronouncing of sounds in English till complex exercises, Essential English for foreign students follows the story of Mr. Priestley, an English teacher, and his students and family. Being partly like a story, it’s easy to follow the texts and make exercises on them. More than this, it keeps you concentrated and willing to read more in order to follow the personages through their story.
Who can read these books?
I started reading these books when I had 21 years old. I honestly don’t think there is much of a difference if you read it at 8 years old or 50. Important is the aim: learning English in an easy manner.
Except these books, I would suggest you take also an Oxford English Dictionary. When I started to learn English, it was helping me more to check a word that I don’t know on the Dictionary, reading it in English. In this way, I learned more words than I could ever imagine. So, give it a try!
In Romania, this book was published by Editura VOX, Bucharest, 1996. Probably there were printed more editions, but I discussed about this one because I have it.
